“Dear Committee of Admissions at Academy of Art University,

It is my pleasure to recommend Martha King for admission to the Apparel Product Development Master’s program at the Academy of Art University. I got to know Martha this year when she interned for me at my company Sarah Liller through the City College internship program. During that time I was impressed by her knowledge of pattern and construction concepts, and her commitment towards the fashion department and the certificate of Pattern making she completed in June.

During her time working for me she exhibited a keen understanding of garment construction. I would ask her to change something on a pattern, and she would ask the right questions and get to work right away. She knows how to communicate with a designer and translate those requests into a 3D garment. Her skill set was definitely above average from other interns I’ve had in the past, and she would excel in your program. Her work ethic was on point. She was efficient and diligent and never complained about her workload and her ability to juggle classes, internship, work, and creating garments and participating in the annual fashion show impressed me.

In addition to her strengths exhibited while interning for me, her intelligence, work ethic, and can-do attitude will make her an outstanding member of the AAU community. It is my strong opinion that Martha will be a tremendous addition to the graduate program within the Fashion Department and she has my highest recommendation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about her character or the work she completed while interning with me and my company.

Sincerely,

“Dear Committee of Admissions at Academy of Art University,

It is my pleasure to recommend Martha King for admission to the Apparel Product Development Master’s program at the Academy of Art University. I got to know Martha this year as a student in my Flat Pattern Making 2 class in Spring. During that time I was impressed by her well established knowledge of pattern making and construction concepts and her willingness to go above and beyond the basic assignment requirements.  Martha has a strong commitment towards bettering her design skills through the fashion department at CCSF.

While in my class, I noticed Martha had a good eye for design, and had clearly had some experience creating complex and interesting patterns in the past. Upon discussing her experience with her, I discovered she had taken it upon herself, years before attending CCSF to teach herself basic and complex pattern making concepts. She showed me her previous work in lingerie and bra construction and design and I was impressed with her ability to create modern, polished, professional looking garments that fit correctly and supported the models.

Martha also competed in the City College annual Fashion Show, and never let the deadlines or pressure from the show impact her work in my class.  Her work ethic is very strong, and one of the reasons I am recommending her to the graduate program at AAU is that I know she can handle the intense workload of the Academy.

The strengths in skill that I saw in Martha’s work while in my class will make her an excellent addition to the Masters program at AAU. It is my strong opinion that she will flourish and become a fantastic resource for the fashion industry upon completion of the program. She has my highest recommendation to the graduate admissions council.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
